Is the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Really worth the hype. or is it the Ultimate Creative Companion for Every Adventurer

We shoot with the FX6 and FX3 rigs hooked up to Atomos Ninja Ultras, shoot in Pro Res or Raw and grade pretty much everything post shoot.

The thought of grabbing those important BTS shots or short form video for clients, where budgets don’t match the type of work required shooting with our production equipment, choices are pretty slim.

Creative content with something as tiny as a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 was always going to be a bone of contention.

So we thought we’d open up a real review and you let everybody know what we think of the latest offering and see if this baby of a camera really meets the hype

Don’t let its size fool you— On first inspection, the camera looks tiny and you think, what is this really capable of? It’s never going to cut it for delivering client content.

You’ve seen the amazing DJI adverts showcasing beautifully graded footage and wonder if it’s all some kind of wizardry that means in reality, you’re going top need to empty the services of a cinematographer and a colour grader to make the most of your DJI Osmo Pocket 3.

As soon as you hit the power switch and the screen lights up, things change. The Pocket 3 is a beautifully designed piece of kit that feels really ergonomic and natural in the hand.

It has a plastic sleeve that protects the camera when it;s packed away and it’s small enough to take anywhere with you. As a Norwich Commercial Photographer, I’ve always found carrying any kind of camera around when you’re not working, is a bit of a cumbersome problem. Even worse if Iyou want to onboard a video camera for those ‘Oh, I wish I could have filmed that’ moments.

We did find that shooting around 10 x 5 minute motion lapse scenes did significantly drain the battery.

We think if you’re on a heavy schedule with the Dji Osmo Pocket 3, investing in additional batteries or taking out something that can re-charge the batteries is a sensible option. The upside, ids that battery charging is absolutely phenomenal.

The quick charge feature is rapid so if you have access to an electric point and a USB-C charger, your shooting won’t have much interruption.
