The Reality of AI Blogging: A Balanced Perspective

The following article is a frank discussion about the evolving landscape of AI blogging and asks where the lines between human creativity and machine efficiency actually blur? And it’s a big question.

The ridiculous concept became known as “Artificial Intelligence” in 1956 at a key meeting of minds called the Dartmouth Conference where experts set out to explore the potential of machines mimicking human intelligence, kicking off years of innovation in the field.

What was once the far fetched thinkings of science fiction writers like Isaac Asimov and Arthur C Clarke, have turn blurred lines into clear visions for a future where machine learning poses many dangers to humanity.

But will it start with a mere drip feed on what many people may perceive as insignificant… With the humble blog post?

In recent years, particularly from 2021 to 2024, AI has seen a massive surge in growth, especially in the areas of writing and creating images.

Thanks to better computer technology and an abundance of data, AI tools can now write articles, craft stories, and generate realistic images that are hard to distinguish from those created by humans.

These capabilities have revolutionised fields like journalism, marketing, and art, making it easier and faster to produce content.

AI Blogging - Does it signify the death of the content creator

It’s actually difficult to keep up with just how fast this growth shows just how fast AI is evolving and expanding and  increasingly integrated into content creation.

AI has become the Double-Edged Sword of Content Creation particularly with the birth of AI Blogging. Very company with a website is likely to have a news page, blog page or some type of curated content to keep their audience informed of what’s happening tin their world.

It could be a few simple one liners and a couple of images or like myself, it may be long-form stories and generic articles covering a diverse spectrum of topics from the business world. Whatever way your work is stylised, there’s a good possibility that it will contain written content and here lies the AI Blogging debate.

Efficiency vs. Authenticity:

AI tools like Jasper AI and ChatGPT can churn out articles quickly, and I mean, a rapid deployment of articles that no human could even comprehend. And from the offset, that could be seen as a major bonus for businesses who don’t know how to structure an article and don’t have the workforce or creative personnel to create interesting content.

AI literally smashes out posts for time-restricted bloggers, however, the speed comes at the cost of authenticity.

Although AI can mimic styles and formats, it definitely lacks the genuine voice and personal touch that’s going to get your readers excited and coming back for more.

Type in a few requests and you’ll soon see that ‘In this  digital age, ‘Elevate your business’ and many more two or three word phrases are repeated over an over again, repeated over and over again… (Yes, that was an attempt to show that this article is written by a human with a subtle touch of satire.)

AI Blogging. Creativity Aided or Stifled?:

AI’s ability to generate content based on trending topics and user data can be incredibly helpful, if you want historical data. AI does not run deep enough yet, to provide much in the way of genuine stats, facts and figures that make for interesting reading.

It’s amazing at generalising and a real audience can see through this.

Real creativity involves leaps of intuition and connections that AI Blogging misses, for now.

Quality Control:

AI can help maintain a consistent level of content quality in your AI Blogging by working it’s content to meet SEO best practices and bang on readability standards.

However, it can also propagate errors with complex topics and can make a shorter content over-wordy, losing some of the impact on what you’re e writing about. You can’t just copy and paste generated ChatGPT articles, because you need a human oversight to make sure things are understandable. I think we’re still a long way off from perfection but a lot of web sites are already relying solely on AI blogging and AI website content.

Cost vs. Value:

We’re in a cost of living crisis. There’s no getting away from that. Every day, businesses are stripping back budgets, cancelling advertising and looking at how to market their companies on the cheap.

Integrating AI into blogging can indeed save costs related to staffing and time. However, considering the potential drawbacks like lack of depth and personal connection, the long-term value of AI-generated content might suffer.

The balance between cost-saving and quality reduction is seriously slim.

The Limitations of AI Blogging in Deepening Reader Engagement

Lack of Emotional Depth:

AI-generated articles may cover the who, what, when, and where, but often miss the “why” and “how” that evokes true humanised responses.

We have a natural ability to tell stories, some better than others, but it’s trait where emotions and personal insights are irreplaceable, and it’s what often turns casual readers into loyal followers.

Ethical and Bias Concerns:

AI operates based on the data it’s fed. If this data is biased, the AI’s output will likely reflect these biases, which can lead to ethical concerns about what’s being produced.

One notable concern is plagiarism, as AI tools base their writing on pre-existing online content.

This could inadvertently lead to copyright issues if the output is too similar to the original.

Another issue is the potential for AI to produce biased or harmful content. Since AI learns from the data it’s given, any inherent biases in that data could be reflected in the generated content.

Additionally, without careful supervision, AI might generate inappropriate or offensive material.

Therefore, it’s essential to monitor AI’s output, ensure unbiased data input, and utilise plagiarism detection tools to maintain ethical standards in AI-powered blogging.

Once again, it’s down to humans to monitor and correct these, things.

The Missing Human Element:

While AI Blogging can produce content on a massive scale, which, everybody knows it does. Even the best Blogger or article writer couldn’t churn out 10 basic articles in as many minutes… but the difference is getting the engagement with your audience.

A human bloggers can respond to comments, interact on social media, and adjust their content based on direct feedback that people give them. And that builds a community of like minded people who want to read what you’re writing.

It’s not rocket science. AI lacks this capability and can’t build relationships with readers.

Balancing Act: The Role of AI in Modern Blogging

The integration of AI blogging presents a mixed bag of innovations and challenges. The essence of blogging is a deeply human activity. It connects, engages, and inspires readers and no algorithms can replace that as things stand,

In this digital age (notice how I managed to get that little phrase in…) the successful blogger will likely be the one who uses AI  carefully, as a tool to support their capabilities, not replace them.

The real art lies in blending AI with human warmth and insight to create content that is not only found but felt.

AI is not the end of blogging as we know it but it could just start a new chapter that needs a thoughtful blend of technology and humanity.

As we navigate this landscape, the choices we make about how to use AI will shape not just our blogs but the future of digital storytelling.
