Case Study: Shooting Relaxed Business Portraits in London for Acteon
As a professional photographer specialising in naturally lit relaxed business portraits, I recently the pleasure of working with Acteon, a company dedicated to supporting marine projects in the offshore renewable energy, nearshore construction, and oil and gas industries.
The assignment took place in London, at the iconic Ham Can Building near Liverpool Street in the City of London.
This case study delves into the details of the project and highlights why relaxed portraits shot in environmental locations are ideal for businesses in 2024.
The Assignment: Relaxed Business Portraits
Acteon, a leader in delivering specialist services and innovative products, approached Blanc Creative to capture their team in a way that reflected their dynamic and forward-thinking approach. Our focus was on photographing the team in a relaxed, natural setting that would resonate with their brand values and the essence of their work. The chosen location, the Ham Can Building, provided a perfect backdrop, blending the most incredible of modern architecture with a sense of professionalism that showcased the high profile, progressive business working at the cutting edge of technology. It was truly an ideal setting for our shoot with its contemporary aesthetics and strategic location. We selected various spots within and around the building to create a diverse portfolio of portraits that captured the essence of the Acteon team.
Why Relaxed Portraits in Environmental Locations?
It’s all about authenticity and connection:
In 2024, businesses are increasingly valuing authenticity. Relaxed portraits shot in natural environments help to convey a genuine image of the team. These images show real people in real settings, fostering a deeper connection with clients and stakeholders.
Reflecting Company Values:
Environmental portraits allow the surroundings to tell a part of the story.
For Acteon, whose work is deeply tied to marine and renewable energy projects, shooting in a location that echoed their industry was crucial.
It visually linked their team to their work, reinforcing their brand message.
Enhanced Engagement:
People tend to engage more with images that feel relatable. Relaxed business portraits taken in a natural setting are more inviting and approachable than traditional studio shots.
This engagement is vital in an era where digital presence significantly impacts business success.
Showcasing the Environment:
For companies like Acteon and other progressive, modern businesses, showcasing their operational environment is part of their identity.
Environmental portraits provide a glimpse into where and how the team operates, adding context to their professional image. The background of a modern architectural space with incredible lighting is a photographer’s dream.
We shoot our relaxed business portraits with a prime 50mm lens, that gives amazing clarity and ensures that backgrounds are suitably blurred, thus offering a comp[osition that gives primary focus on the subject, and not the surroundings.
Versatility and Relevance:
Relaxed portraits are so versatile and we very seldom shoot traditional studio based portraits . They can be used across various platforms – from websites and social media to press releases and marketing materials.
In 2024, where digital media plays a bigger role than ever (we know that your audience has become more and more reliant on imagery to tell a story, often avoiding the need to read long artivcles, like this one.
An image tells sop much about an individual, a brand, as service or a business. Adaptable and relevant visual content is invaluable.
Having portraits shot with natural light reduces the need for artificial studio lighting and evokes the personality of the subject being photographed.
Many employees who are placed in front of studio lighting for a formal portrait image tend to feel slightly uncomfortable. The result, is a portrait photograph that looks slightly uneasy.
The Shoot:
Our day began with a recce of the multiple locations across the office to give a diverse set of imagery.
We then captured the team in candid moments as well as informal poses that each individual felt comfortable with. The approach to these relaxed business portraits helped put everyone at ease, resulting in genuine smiles and expressions.
We also included shots of individuals in various settings – by large windows with city views, in light communal rooms, and in casual meeting spaces.
The Outcome:
The final images were a perfect blend of professionalism and approachability.
The photos were used across their corporate website, LinkedIn profiles, and marketing materials, receiving positive feedback from clients and partners.
Conclusion:
Working with Acteon at the Ham Can Building was a rewarding experience.
This project underscored the importance of relaxed business portraits in environmental locations, and was another example of the diverse clientele Blanc Creative work with at locations throughput the UK.
