Mark Owen Photography. A surpringsly stunning Performance
Attending a concert is always an exhilarating experience, but when Mark Owen took the stage at Sandringham, supporting Robbie Williams during his 2023 tour, it was nothing short of spectacular.
As a Norwich music photographer, capturing these moments, where nostalgia and fresh excitement blend under the open sky, is always a privilege.
The whole Heritage Live 2023 was pretty amazing to be fair, especially because the concerts had some big hitters, with not only The Who and Richard Ashcroft appearing, but two nights marked the final stop of Robbie’s world XXV tour, a celebration of 25 years since his departure from Take That.
Having only ever captured Mark Owen Photography other than when he performed as part of That Take, it was always going to be an interesting set.
How Mark Owen performed in a solo capacity, and not being a fan (in fact, I didn’t know any of his solo songs) meant the photo gig probably wasn’t set to be that exciting. Robbie was really who I was waiting for.
How surprised could a Music Photographer be?
Mark Owen, clad in an eye-catching emerald jumpsuit, was amazing. His entrance was dramatic, holding a retro telephone, slowly building the suspense before delving into his set.
What was equally striking about Mark’s performance was his new look; sporting shoulder-length hair and a distinctive beard, he looked every bit the rock star.
This transformation sparked a lot of buzz online, showing how a change in style can reignite interest and bring a fresh wave of attention.
As he performed songs from his solo career, it was clear how his musical journey has evolved. He’d never lost his Take That Charm and his audience interaction and even eye contact with me as a Music Photographer, did a lot tore-enforce what a ‘gent’ I imagine this man is.
It’s not every often that artists are open to photographers being in the press as more and more concerts, seek to remove any sign of the Music Photographer, and instead, position them as far back as the lighting desk. Shooting his set from the pit meant my Mark Owen Photography was going to be a good portfolio.
The night was filled with high energy and palpable excitement, particularly when Robbie Williams joined Mark on stage, igniting the crowd with their dynamic presence. This reunion was a little homage to their shared history and the powerful chemistry they still wield on stage.
Even without the ability to capture this reunion due to photography restrictions, the magic of the moment was undeniable and I was glad to have had the opportunity to be there to capture both Mark Owen Photography as well as that of Robbie Williams.
