Capturing Authentic Stories: A Case Study on Our Cinematic Testimonial Video for Lovewell Blake Accountants with The Penny Bun Bakehouse

At Blanc Creative, we’re all about turning everyday business tales into something truly captivating.

Based right here in Norwich, we’ve spent over a decade helping companies across the UK bring their narratives to life through bold photography, dynamic video production, and engaging podcasts.

Our approach is straightforward: we focus on the heart of the story, using creative visuals to make it stick. No fluff, just purposeful content that helps businesses stand out and connect with their audiences.

Now we’ve been working really closely with Lovewell Blake Accountants, a well-respected firm with roots stretching back to 1858.

We’ve had eleven years as their in-house photographer and video content creator and recently, the business has launched an incredible media room where we also produce their video podcasts and audio podcast.

Lovewell Blake are a top 50 chartered accountancy practice in the UK, with offices dotted across Norfolk and Suffolk, offering everything from financial planning to business advice.

What sets them apart is their commitment to tailored support – they’re not just number-crunchers; they’re partners in growth for local enterprises.

We were tasked with creating a cinematic testimonial video and a series of artistic still images to showcase how they’ve helped one of their clients thrive.

The location? The Penny Bun Bakehouse in Lowestoft, a spot that’s become a local gem for handcrafted breads and pastries since 2010.

The Penny Bun Bakehouse, run by passionate baker Johnny Spillings, is the perfect example of a small business punching above its weight.

Tucked away in Suffolk, it’s a wholesale bakery supplying fresh, additive-free loaves to shops and markets, including their own spot at The Box in Southwold.

Lovewell Blake has been by their side for years, providing expert guidance on everything from tax strategies to expansion plans.

Johnny’s story of growth – from a modest setup to a thriving operation – was the ideal hook for this testimonial. We headed to Lowestoft to capture it all, turning a simple client endorsement into a visually stunning piece that highlights the real impact of Lovewell Blake’s services.

Our team arrived early on a crisp morning, kit in hand, ready to make the most of the bakehouse’s rustic charm.

The place has that authentic feel – flour-dusted counters, the warm hum of ovens, and the irresistible scent of fresh sourdough wafting through the air.

We knew straight away that this setting would add layers of genuineness to the video. For the cinematic testimonial, we went beyond the standard talking-head format.

Drawing on our experience in commercial video production, we used dynamic camera work to weave in shots of the baking process: close-ups of dough being kneaded, wide angles of the bustling kitchen, and slow-motion sequences of loaves emerging golden from the oven. It wasn’t just about what Johnny said; it was about showing the energy and dedication that Lovewell Blake’s advice has helped sustain.

We filmed Johnny chatting openly about how Lovewell Blake’s support has been a game-changer. “They’ve helped us navigate the tricky bits of running a business, from finances to planning ahead,” he shared, with that no-nonsense East Anglian straightforwardness.

To raise this, we incorporated subtle cinematic techniques – natural lighting to create a warm, inviting atmosphere, and a gentle score that builds emotional depth without overpowering the words. Funnily enough, we had no problems creating soft lighting with some amazing shadows and mid tomes. The fabric of the building and the interior was perfect and on those occasions, it;s awesome to harness this without having to add false lighting setups.

The result is a two-minute video that feels like a short film, drawing viewers in and leaving them with a clear sense of the Lovewell Blake values and client success stories.

Alongside the video, we captured artistic still images that tell their own story.

These aren’t your run-of-the-mill snaps; they’re composed with an eye for detail, using natural lighting and shadows to highlight textures – Johnny’s hands at work, flour falling through a sieve like snowfall.

We aimed for images that could stand alone on social media or in marketing materials, each one evoking the craftsmanship at the heart of both the bakehouse and Lovewell Blake’s ethos.

Matte-finished images work brilliantly for food photography because they bring out a real, hands-on feel that people actually trust and connect with, especially in the British food scene where honesty and craftsmanship matter more than flash.
Jamie Oliver kicked this off years back through his work with photographer David Loftus, starting from the Naked Chef days and carrying on through dozens of cookbooks.
They ditched the old-school polished studio look – all harsh lights, deep shine and over-the-top saturation – for something quicker and truer: natural window light, fast shooting to catch food at its freshest, and a clean, honest result that looks like what you’d actually make at home.
David always talks about keeping things straightforward, no mucking about, just capturing the food as it is – clean textures, genuine colours, subtle shadows – so the end photo feels lived-in and approachable rather than staged.
Matte processing fits this perfectly: it cuts out reflections and glare, softens highlights without killing detail, and lets you see the real character in things like the rough crust on a loaf, the steam curling off hot pastry, or the uneven crumb of handmade bread.

Glossy shots, on the other hand, crank up contrast and shine to make everything pop instantly, which can feel artificial and commercial – great for some ads, but it often hides the natural imperfections that give artisan food its soul. In a world full of overly filtered social media posts, matte images stand out by being quieter and more sincere; they draw you in because they feel believable, like someone just pulled the tray from the oven and snapped it there and then. That’s why so many independent bakers, cafes and producers across the UK now go for this style – it matches their no-nonsense ethos, builds proper appetite through warmth and texture rather than gimmicks, and works especially well in print, on websites or Instagram where viewers want something that looks real and inviting, not too perfect to be true.

At Blanc Creative, we’ve seen it time and again on shoots like the one at Penny Bun Bakehouse: matte keeps the focus on the craft and the story behind it, making the photos feel human and grounded every single time.
The Penny Bun Bakehouse Testimonial Video

At Blanc Creative, we absolutely love crafting cinematic testimonial videos because they capture the genuine heart of a business relationship in a way that no other format can match.

There’s something magical about seeing a real client – like Johnny from The Penny Bun Bakehouse – speaking directly to camera in their own environment, with the warmth of their voice, the sincerity in their eyes, and the subtle details of their daily world bringing the story to life. We thrive on turning these authentic moments into polished yet unpretentious films that feel cinematic without feeling contrived, blending dynamic shots, natural lighting, and emotional depth to make viewers feel like they’re right there in the conversation. What excites us most is how these videos go beyond simple endorsements; they become powerful storytelling tools that showcase real results, human connection, and the tangible difference a service like Lovewell Blake’s makes in someone’s business journey.

And the reason they work so brilliantly for businesses is backed by solid evidence: video testimonials build unparalleled trust and credibility, as people connect far more deeply with faces, expressions, and real voices than with text alone.

Studies show that around 79% of consumers prefer watching video testimonials to learn about a company or product, and 72% say positive testimonials significantly boost their trust.

Video content is retained at much higher rates – up to 80% of visual information sticks compared to just 20% from text – making these pieces more engaging and memorable.

They drive serious results too: landing pages with video testimonials can see conversion rates increase by as much as 80%, while businesses using them often report higher ROI, more qualified leads, and faster sales cycles.

In a world where people are sceptical of polished ads, a heartfelt client story shared on camera acts as powerful social proof, turning satisfied customers into credible advocates who naturally extend your reach through shares and word-of-mouth.

For professional services firms like accountants, these videos cut through the noise, humanise what can feel like dry expertise, and position the business as a trusted partner rather than just another provider.

It’s why we get such a thrill from projects like the Lovewell Blake shoot – they don’t just look great; they deliver real commercial impact, helping clients attract new business with authenticity and emotional punch that keeps paying dividends long after the video goes live.
